Colleagues, this blog is dedicated to my more techno -savvy colleagues in class who have always come to my assistance when I needed help. I won’t print their names of course ( this is on the Internet) but they know who they are. It has made me realize that with technology there is the need for support and sharing of information even among professionals, as the saying goes “No man is an island”.
Technology is constantly evolving, today’s invention could be yesterday’s news. If you are a digital native, coping with such changes would be second nature but if you are a digital immigrant like me, you must practice to keep up or get lost in the world of technology. More techno- savvy educators ought to scaffold their weaker colleagues. Why? We are all working towards a common goal which is to equip our learners with all the literacies they need to function effectively in the future.
By sharing information, we will form a community of well- informed reading educators and this would go a long way in helping struggling readers and writers. One more point to those who are not versed in the use of technology do not be afraid to ask for help. There are many out there willing to assist.
Colleagues, let’s learn from each other.
Well said! Some believe that their success is measured by the success of others and these are the people who do not hesitate to help. This is also reflected in how we teach. There will always be the child who just does not get it. Sometimes it drives us to the brink of .... We feel like giving up on them but WE DON'T . How great is it when they make that little bit of progress? We feel like sharing their success with the world. It is in helping others that the circle of goodness returns to us. So thanks BJ. for the reminder of what's important. Thanks Ms. Wood- Jackson for challenging us with Web 2.0. You have made me a better Reading Specialist and person.
ReplyDeleteOpenly admitting that you don't know how to do something is the stepping stone to getting the help you need.Whether you know it or not there is always someone willing to help.Just like you Bernice I want to say thank you to all those who stepped up to assist whenever I asked or did not ask. This is the attitude we need if we are to succeed as Reading Specialist
ReplyDeleteThis is from one digital immigrant to the next. I too have had to seek help on numerous occasions to get on with the technology. I belonged to the world of print. Notice I said "belonged" that's because I want so much to keep up with the learning style of this new generation. I know that I have to practice very often to get it right. Like you and Priscilla I am very grateful to all who come readily to my assistance when I need them.I know that after this course I would still need to refer to my notes. Thanks to our thoughtful teachers who keep putting step by step instructions for the neophytes like us. The tips are very helpful and would keep us in good stead. I know that the digital natives in our schools would be only happy to assist us when they see the type of technology that we are bringing to the classroom. As teachers we need to be on top of the learning styles of our students. I am confident that we would continue to support each other to move our students towards independence.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is ever evolving, when you learn something new today it is out tomorrow. as you rightly said the use of technology should be done collaboratively in our schools. Almost every secondary school have lab techs, and thanks to SEMP, computers and other techno equipment.
ReplyDeleteWe need to work along with the lab techs at our school to ensure that we are abreast of whats going on and to get help when needed.
I too needed help at times. And I consider myself a quick techno learner. I taught I knew a lot but this course was an eye opener to many tools that I can now incorporate in my lessons, and may my classroom an exciting, collaborative experience for my students.
Thilica thanks for commenting on my blog. To fully integrate the technology we need to work together and support each other. Of course many thanks go out to the SEMP unit because it is due to their foresight that this course was made possible.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is here to stay and it is the future.Although we have a lot of catching up to do when compared to developed countries we can make great strides if we work together.
It is my hope that after this course we will all make a concerted effort to practice what we have learnt and rally around our colleagues at school to join in the "technology drive".
